Commentary: Overview

The Commentary Plugin is designed to allow your site visitors to comment on pages where you would like comments to be placed. This is similar to how a blog functions. On a blog, typically, after each post by the author a comment section appears where a user can enter some comments and they would then show up on the page.

With Commentary, you simply drag and drop the icon in your Soholaunch admin panel to ANY page (not just blogs) where you would like comments to appear. This provides the form element for the users to enter their comments as well as display current page comments.

In the Soholaunch admin panel, you have the ability to set the plugin to require moderator approval before being posted live. You also have the ability to remove comments you don't want to appear on the site.

Instructions:

1. Install the plugin using your sohoadmin Manage Plugins feature.

2. Click on the Plugins button in the bottom right corner of the Advanced Features section of your sohoadmin main menu.

3. Click on the Commentary icon.

4. Click on Commentary Settings. Choose whether to require moderator approval or not. If you want it to require moderator approval, the comments posted will not display until the moderator approves of them. You must enter an email address where comment notification will be sent.

5. Go back to the sohoadmin main menu and click Edit Pages. Choose a page you want to add the commentary plugin to.

6. When the page editor loads, click on the Plugins button on the right and then click and drag the Commentary icon bar to an available box on your page. Save the page.

At this point, users can begin adding comments. To moderate the comments, go back to the Commentary menu (steps 2 and 3 above). Then click on Moderate Comments. You can filter the ocmments by page. Any unapproved comments have an approve link next to them. You can also remove any comments you wish to, whether they are approved or not.

Version 4.9.2+ required

Make sure that you are running 4.9.2 or later. This add-on will not function properly on any version earilier than 4.9.2.

How to find out what version you're running Log-in to manage your website with Pro Edition (i.e. http://example.com/sohoadmin) and look in the bottom right corner of the admin tool window (ie. in the footer).

How to update your version

If you're running v4.8.x or earlier than you've got to first update to v4.9 via Fantastico. Once you're on v4.9 you can update to the latest build using v4.9's built-in Software Updates feature (Main Menu > Webmaster > Software Updates).
